How to understand building and planning regulations

How to understand building and planning regulations

What are planning and building controls? Why do they exist? Can you deal with them yourself or is it best to ask a specialist? As with any task, you can decide for yourself when you know exactly what's involved.

First of all, it's important to understand what planning and building regulations are. It's easy to think of them as restrictive, bureaucratic tools put in place purely to thwart your ambitions. However, they're essential safety mechanisms which have been designed to protect you, your neighbours and the local environment.

The regulatory bodies will give you permission to carry out your plans unless there are very good reasons not to - in which case they must explain their decision. And if you disagree, you have the right to appeal against it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the job I needed a good mitre box and a saw that was push and pull for fine toothed edging. These two products are perfect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst saw I have ever bought I have used 12" Fatmax saws in the past for laminate and got a fair amount of cuts. I thought I would try this but it is absolutely abysmal. don't bother. I wouldn't have give it a star rating but you have to if you want to review it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality, stay away Purchased for laying laminated flooring, as advertised on the cardboard cover... First thing mentioned ( see pic). Laminated Flooring. So purchased the correct saw, then after 10 cuts, blunt, completely blunt. Useless item, which will be going back, as not fit for purchase under sales of goods act. Ridiculous as for money it costs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Bother! Havind spent a lot of money (at B&Q) on lamnate flooring I thought I'd purchase a brand name flooring saw ... after cutting approx 20 boards to length the saw started to go blunt ... with a handful left to cut the thing was completely blunt!! Now, the room we did is approx 12' square (and we purchased 72 boards and cut perhaps 1/3rd of them so I'm not exactly working the saw to death!!) Fuming, I've had to finish the day with the floor not finished whilst I'll return the thing and get another (different one I hope) .... that's all I need, another day on my hands and knees!!!
