Product information

Sweetcorn 'Lark' is a midseason tendersweet variety renowned for its exceptional sweetness and tender texture, offering a delightful alternative to conventional supersweets. The large cobs, brimming with golden, thin-skinned kernels, are a culinary delight when freshly picked from the garden and prepared by boiling, steaming, or barbecuing. Unlike many varieties of sweetcorn that require isolation when grown, 'Lark' can be cultivated alongside other varieties, making it a convenient choice for gardeners. Its more reliable germination compared to supersweets further enhances its appeal. Expect this variety to reach a height of 200cm (79") with a spread of 45cm (18"). Get ready to enjoy the luscious sweetness and tender texture of 'Lark' sweetcorn straight from your own garden! Supplied as 1 x packet of 25 seeds.

Begin by sowing the seeds in 7.5cm (3") pots indoors, using high-quality, free-draining, moist seed compost. Plant the seeds approximately 2cm (3/4") deep in the compost. Place the pots in a propagator or enclose them in a polythene bag, maintaining a temperature of around 18-24°C (64-75°F) until germination occurs, typically within 7-10 days. Ensure that the seeds receive some light during this time, as it aids in germination.

Prepare the soil in your vegetable plot by raking it until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones or debris. Before planting out, gradually acclimate the seedlings to cooler outdoor conditions by exposing them to outdoor temperatures for a few hours each day over a period of 10-14 days.

Once all risk of frost has passed, plant the seedlings outdoors, spacing them 35cm (14") apart within each row and between rows to create a block formation. Sweetcorn plants rely on wind pollination, so spacing them appropriately is crucial. You can aid in the pollination process by gently shaking the plants when the tassels at the top of the plant are laden with pollen.
