Begin by sowing the seeds in 7.5cm (3") pots indoors, using high-quality, free-draining, moist seed compost. Plant the seeds approximately 2cm (3/4") deep in the compost. Place the pots in a propagator or enclose them in a polythene bag, maintaining a temperature of around 18-24°C (64-75°F) until germination occurs, typically within 7-10 days. Ensure that the seeds receive some light during this time, as it aids in germination.

Prepare the soil in your vegetable plot by raking it until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones or debris. Before planting out, gradually acclimate the seedlings to cooler outdoor conditions by exposing them to outdoor temperatures for a few hours each day over a period of 10-14 days.
