Product information

Wisteria ‘Prolific’ provides masses of late-spring colour with generous quantities of beautiful, scented hanging purple blooms which fill the air with sweet perfume. True to its name, Wisteria ‘Prolific’ is exceptionally free flowering, producing masses of lilac-mauve flowers which not only look spectacular, but bees will love them too. It looks great in any garden, but particularly so in traditional or cottage-style planting schemes. This variety benefits from being vigorous and fast growing, yet maintains a more compact habit (reaching a mature height of around 9m), making it ideal for training on to sunny walls or pergolas.Grow wisteria plants in a sunny or semi shaded site in any moist, well-drained soil. Wisteria flower buds can be damaged by hard spring frosts so choose a sheltered position. Prior to planting add plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate and sturdy support, such as strong trellis or wires attached to walls and pergolas.Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Prune wisteria in July and again in February. During the first two years, prune wisteria to create a framework of permanent stems. Tie in selected lateral shoots to sturdy supports and cut back unwanted growth. Caution: harmful if eaten.Position: Full Sun/Partial ShadeHeight: Up to 9m when fully establishedSpread: Up to 5m when fully establishedSupplied as 1 x Wisteria sinensis ‘Prolific’ plant in a 1.5 Litre pot.Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Prior to planting add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil. Alternatively grow wisteria plants in large containers of soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate framework to support its trained branches. Standard Wisteria will require particularly sturdy support when grown as a small weeping tree to prevent its head being damaged by strong winds.

Prune wisteria in July and again in February. During the first two years, prune wisteria to create a framework of permanent stems.
