Provide the twining stems with an appropriate and sturdy support, such as strong trellis or wires attached to walls and pergolas. Standard wisterias will especially need a sturdy support when grown to protect the head from damage by strong winds . Feed and water regularly until fully established. In autumn or spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Prune wisteria in July and again in February.
