We form a key part of all the communities throughout the UK where our stores operate. We have a significant commercial impact on each of these communities, not least because of the employment we provide and the opportunities to contribute to community projects. Our stores also have the potential to cause disturbance to local residents, especially through traffic movements, vehicle noise, light pollution and litter.

We are determined to involve all B&Q stores in creating lasting improvements and benefits in the communities they serve.

It is our policy to...

Define standards for the environmental performance and community participation of our store’s and regularly assess each stores performance against these standards
Ensure that stores take steps to understand how they can most effectively support the needs of their local communities and implement initiatives accordingly
Contribute skills and funding to selected community projects
Work with contractors employed in developing, refurbishing and maintaining stores who follow defined procedures to minimise nuisance to local communities and damage to local wildlife
Where possible, favour previously developed land over green field sites where this is the best environmental option
Undertake a documented environmental assessment for every new property development project
