Fortress Paint

Do it right. Do it once.

If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well, so always prepare surfaces thoroughly before you begin to paint. Good preparation will ensure your painted masonry will stand the test of time with a look, feel and finish you’ll be proud of for many years to come. Follow our preparation guidelines for another masonry job well done.

  • Brush your masonry clean. Use a stiff brush or a household broom with a longer handle and repeat with a soft wire brush (with brass bristles) on stubborn spots.
  • Use soapy water to clean off any algae or dirt. When the surface is clean use stabilising solution if the walls are chalky or powdery. Check all joints, pointing, corners, bricks and blocks for cracks and holes and fill with an appropriate waterproof filler. Paint is not a filler!
  • Stay safe! Secure your ladder properly or use a scaffold tower. They’re easy to erect and will give you space to paint safely.
  • Use a specialist masonry brush or roller on an extension pole for a perfect finish.
