The Energy Saving Trust (EST) has undertaken the first comprehensive in-situ monitoring of domestic small-scale wind turbines in the UK. The results show that the performance of domestic wind small-scale turbines is highly dependent upon location. Disappointingly the study confirms that current micro wind turbine technology fails to deliver the results we originally hoped it would for the everyday householder living in an urban environment.
B&Q no longer sells wind turbines but is urging any customers who have previously purchased one from us and still have it attached to their home, to read the report and then contact our dedicated freephone helpline number on 0800 389 0419. It should be made clear that the wind turbines previously sold by B&Q are not faulty, the problem is that in urban environments, where wind speeds are interrupted by buildings and trees, the turbine is unable to generate as much power as was originally hoped.
