Worst flooring I have ever fitted!

I fit and restore hardwood floors for a living and have just been installing this product for a customer. Normally I wouldn’t fit a product that wasn’t supplied by myself as I can’t guarantee it’s quality but this person was a friend of mine. This is the perfect example of why I have adopted this approach. Each box contains a ridiculous amount of short boards between 300-600mm and only 1 1.2m length. My floorboards are typically between 2 and 2.4m in length which is a sign of quality as they are made from nice sizable bits of timber. These are clearly just made up (probably in Asia) from the short scraps of oak that aren’t any good for much else. The boards have a large variation in appearance which isn’t necessarily a bad thing depending on taste but the boards do vary in shape and width resulting in difficulty fitting and some gaps as shown in the photo. Some boards have also cracked and lacquer is coming away. I have discarded many boards but have had to accept many of these faults as otherwise I wouldn’t have enough. Have read some of the other reviews about fitting methods which are totally incorrect. Solid wood floors should ALWAYS be nailed or glued down using a flexible wood adhesive. I have done a combination of both in the past to really secure it. I have nothing good to say about this product as it’s the worst hardwood floor I have ever come across but it doesn’t surprise me coming from a large diy company. Do yourselves a favour and go to a company that specialises in wooden floors or speak to a local reputable flooring specialist (not the handy guy who lives round the corner). It will save yourself a lot of grief in the long run!! Also this inferior product is more expensive than most flooring I fit. I would give it 0 stars if possible.

Terrible, best avoided

Bought 50m of this but had to return all of this - boards were split in the box.

Great products

I brought this solid flooring initially is for my living room but I like it so much I'm doing the whole house with this excellent product! Can't say a bad thing about it! Absolutely brilliant! You've done it again B&Q!

Looks fantastic

Quality solid flooring, well worth the money looks amazing in all the rooms in our house, bought around 70 packs when it was on offer couple weeks ago.

Very small lengths

Bought 24 packs of this. The pack size is 1.2 m but in the first two packs I opened there was only one board in each full length, the rest were in two or even three pieces. Even 1.2m is short, so this is rediculous, much worse than the picture and not like the B&Q video on uTube. You are meant to have at least 8" overlap on joints but these are so short it is not possible. I might be unlucky with the first two packs but am not taking the risk, sending it all back.

Awful qualit

Bought 38sq metres. Laid onto sticky recommended underlay sold also by BQ. Fitters comments and mine were as follows: * different width planks, * lots of small lengths, * poor quality with lots of infills * different depths * wasted time ++ to return warped and damaged or substandard product. * cost a lot more time to lay than estimated due to quality of flooring, fitter had to wait around while wood was returned, he took extra time fiddling around selecting same width planks or recutting due to damaged or cracked planks. The surface or face of the wood is also cracking now and the coating is lifting - The poor quality is now showing in terms of wearability after four months. Very very disappointing. I should have not just returned a few of the packs that were dodgy, but returned the whole lot. Now it has settled it looks even worse but only when you look closely. This is my third attempt at posting a review, no explanation is given for rejection. So quality poor Poor value Very difficult to lay due to above issues.

Great Look

I have had this laid in my dining room and it looks so good, I am now looking to put it in the bedrooms as well. My builder who laid it also said it was really easy to lay and he thought it was great quality too.

Good value, but with some issues

This is, without doubt, the cheapest solid oak flooring from a sustainable source that I could find. It is high quality and looks good. However, it does have some negatives: the width of the boards varies slightly, so that it's not that easy to install and you will probably have some slight gaps between the floorboards. Also, the short length of some of the boards means that they're prone to warping and, if the floor is not secured, you can get a slight bouncy effect.
