Gas bottle and refill FAQs
We've put together some frequently asked questions on our gas bottles service.
What is the difference between propane (leisure gas) and butane gas
Propane and butane are both used as fuel gases, but they have different properties that make them better suited for different applications.
Propane is ideal for year-round use due to its much lower boiling point. This makes it a popular choice for outdoor appliances like BBQs, even in cold weather. While both can be used with BBQs, propane is generally preferred.
Butane, on the other hand, is commonly used for camping stoves and indoor heaters because it's cheaper and has a boiling point, which is sufficient for most indoor uses.
Which gas should I use for my barbecue?
Both propane and butane can be used for barbecues, although propane is generally preferred due to it's lower boiling point.
You must ensure that you are using the correct gas bottle for the regulator that you have fitted to your BBQ.
Most BBQ’s come with a propane regulator fitted as standard. Check you BBQ instructions to confirm this. If you are unsure, please seek professional advice before connecting your cylinder.
Do I have to exchange my cylinder for one the same size?
No - you can swap between sizes without the need to purchase a new agreement.
How old do I need to be to buy a gas cylinder?
To be able to purchase or replace a gas cylinder bottle you must be 18 years or older. Proof of age may be requested at store.
What do I do if I no longer need my gas cylinder - can I bring it back?
If you find you no longer require the use of your Flogas cylinder, you can return it to your local B&Q store and receive a £10 refund from B&Q. Alternatively you can contact Flogas directly on 0800 574574 for collection, although there is no refund available if collected.
