Good for Light - but Don't Last

Please use LED bulbs, but these ones generate a lot of heat which is probably why they fail early. Spec says 25,000 hours, 25 yrs. Mine lasted beyond the 1 year guarantee, but less than two years. [Used in an internal bathroom/toilet (no natural light) in two-person house; so switched relatively frequently, but on for short periods.] Look for other LED bulbs with higher lumens per watt. They generate less heat and should last longer. (This bulb is rated 5W, 250 Lumens.)

Unreliable

Bought 12 of these to replace 12 halogen in kitchen. They where great at first reducing wattage from 600 to 60. However they are now failing one by one, either just going dim or packing in all together. Not too impressed

Just replaced 8 x 50w halogens

Our house has 17 50w halogen spots. Including 12 in the kitchen. That's some energy consumption. I decided to cut that 90% with these bulbs. I've started out replacing the 8 main bulbs in the kitchen, which were previously standard 50w halogens. These bulbs, despite the packaging saying they are 35w seem even brighter than the 50w. However, they do have a noticeably narrower beam. The halogens were 40d, these are 35d. I wouldn't call it a flaw, and after a bit of repointing, the lights are fine. They also seem a lot whiter than the halogens, despite being a "warm" colour, though this could be due to increased brightness. Makes me happy, though, I never went for a "white" LED! For the next 9 non-pointable spots, I think I'm going to go for a bulb with a wider beam. But for the pointables these do the job. And, with the 3 for 2 discount with B&Q membership, they work out comparable to bulbs you have to order in.

LED lighting? A good idea!

Purchased to replace a dead 11w compact fluorescent in my kitchen. Gives an excellent light, noticeably brighter than the fluorescents (as expected from the lumen rating) but it has a smaller beam angle. Overall a very good replacement if you are prepared to pay the cost penalty over the fluorescents, which should be clawed back with longer life and lower consumption. Instant light is a great improvement over the CFs which take 20 secs to fully warm up. NB - The kitchen was fitted out in June 2008. This was the 2nd CF bulb to die.
