Product details

Product information

Dahlias are enjoying a much deserved return to popularity. They're great plants for dry and sunny spots in your garden, and as drought tolerant plants they'll cope with hot, dry weather, blooming throughout the summer. They're invaluable for beds and borders, in patio pots, or as cut flowers.

  • Planting location: Beds, borders or in patio pots
  • Soil moisture: Moist & well drained, Soil pH: Any
  • Flowering period: July - October, Planting period: May - June
  • Hardiness: H3 - Hardy in coastal & relatively mild parts of the UK (-5 to 1°C)
  • Plant in a sunny spot. Dig soil improver and bonemeal into the planting hole before planting. In heavy clay soils add horticultural grit to the bottom of the planting hole. Do not attempt to plant these bulbs if the ground is frozen or during freezing conditions. Remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. Water well during dry spells. When foliage has died back, usually after the first frost, cut stems back to 5cm above soil level. Not winter hardy. To over-winter, dig up the tubers and store them in a cool, dry and frost-free place. Replant in the same way next year.

Dinnetplate dahl7as

I bought these dahl7as as they were fantastic for the price. They were ready to collect on the same day. I planted them the next day and fingers crossed, they'll be great!

Lots of bulbs

Lots of bulbs in the selection, can't wait to see what grows!

Very healthy tubers

I bought these in late April on a special offer three packets for £10. They were well packed and looked very healthy. Hope they will produce a beautiful display in the months to come in summer. Good quality at a reasonable price.

Pleasant surprise

Bought this in store last year, was my first experience growing dahlia from tubers. I didn't expect the tubers to grow as they look dead and dry. But I planted them anyway, only to find them growing slowly. I had to use slug pellets as they were eating the baby plants, surprisingly all the tubers survived. After autumn last year, I left the tubers in the soul and sovered them with compost. It survived the winter and has bloomed again this year. If you find that your dahlia tubers look dead and dry, I'll suggest you soak it in water prior to planting to fully hydrate it and increase the chances of survival. I'm very surprised this has poor reviews, a picture uploaded on one of the reviews which says looks dead actually has a tiny punk bud on it. Dahlias initially need watering to stimulate growth until its fully established. And of course prepare your plant bed and fertilize if necessary.

Very poor quality

I purchase a number of different dahlia packets but, unfortunately, they have not grown! I buy Dahlia tubers every year and have always a good success rate but the four packets I bought this year have been very disappointing! I email customer services but did not get a reply.

Will buy again

I bought this early this year and left them in the garage until the end of march after which I planted it following the planting instructions I had slug issues initially as they kept eating the growing bulbs and had to use some eco friendly treatment to get them off, apparently slugs love dahlias. Luckily, 8 out of the 10 bulbs survived to becomes lovely dhalia plants. It was a watch and wait game to see what colours/types of dahlia they turned out into. In the end, 1 got two motto dahlia, 1 duet dhalia, 3 Edinburgh dahlia, 2 Arabian night dahlia and 1 café au lait royal. Even though the bulbs looks dead on arrival, you need to read and follow the planting instructions. I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews about this. The price was very good and I'm pleased with the outcome.

Waste

I bought these bulbs along with so many other dahlia bulbs last season. They came very dried in broken pieces and none of them had grown from this pack. From the other 5 bags of dahlia bulbs, only two bulbs had grown. I haven followed all the instructions as I always do. I bought some dahlia bulbs from another retailer at the same time but they all have grown and had beautiful flowers so I believe 100% that b&q bulbs aren't good quality... I contacted the customer team last year but they have done nothing about it...

Poor quality

The bulbs was dry some rotten I don't even think any is viable

This is the worst

I bought lots of Dahlia bulbs this year and I planted in pots indoor due to the bad weather condition. Only one out of 5 bulbs growing. Such a waste of money.

Avoid buying these.

Very Shriveled and dried up, you will be lucky if one in every packet of five grows. Complete waste of money.
