Features and benefits

  • Control air pollutants by choosing products with lower solvent levels
  • At B&Q we want you to be satisfied with your colour selection. Not all monitors will display colours the same and paint tins may not show the same colour as your walls do in natural light. We therefore recommend you order a tester pot online or pop in store to pick one up so you are sure that this is the right colour for you.

Excellent paint.

Great coverage, fast drying, beautiful finish. What’s not to love about this paint. Thoroughly recommend.

Awful paint! Avoid!

Awful paint! Ive used other Dulux colours in this range and have had no problems. This black paint is very watery with no black pigment colour. It paints on wood surface a thin streaky grey colour. Two coats and still looks terrible. Yes I did prep the wood properly before painting. Gone in the dustbin as no use to anybody, waste of money. Bought a tin of Johnstones, cheaper and superior quality.

Don’t use quick drying black satin

Paint was so bad, I had to sand back to bare then purchase oil based satinwood, which brushes on much more evenly and no brush mark

Good but marks easily

I love the colour & the finish but it marks very easily.

Poor quality paint

I don't recommend this paint at all. It's very thick and second brush stroke tends to pull off the first stroke even on a well prepared undercoated surface making it difficult to apply. It's also very expensive.

Terrible paint

I brought this paint and thought it would come out black! It’s terrible 3 coats, still not black, it’s a watery grey. Don’t waste your money.

Nightmare "paint".

This is the most horrible rubbish I've ever painted with. It's like a weird, watery jelly with streaks of grey pigment in it. No amount of stirring or change of technique helps this stuff to go on smoothly. I'm on my second coat and it still looks nothing like black. I'm chucking this in the bin and buying a different brand to finish the job properly. Dulux, pah!!

Worst paint I've ever used.

I don't usually leave reviews but this "paint" is so bad I can't help myself. It has zero opacity and lays down like a grey streaky watercolor wash. I highly advise choosing any other paint instead of this, even making your own out of Oxo and water would give better results and I'm not even exaggerating.

Rubbish quality - opacity of lemonade

I bought several cans of this recently, having used it for some time on other furniture items without particular problems. However, they seemed to have changed this paint because now it applies like a semi-transparent grey. My wife painted a table top and couldn't understand what was going on - it's like a watercolour wash. I got home, gave the contents a good stir and painted a pre-primed piece of wood I use for colour-testing acrylic paints. Sure enough, it has the opacity of lemonade. I went to B&Q in Chelmsford and was told Dulux might have changed the formulation, but that it was probably because I hadn't primed (we had), hadn't stirred the paint (both of us did) and maybe we just overbrushed (neither had). Even dripping a puddle onto the (grey-primed) timber only gives a translucent mid-grey. This is absolute rubbish and B&Q's lack of customer service skills is appalling. It took long enought o find someone prepared to listen to me and 5 seconds to realise they didn't give a monkeys'.. This is the second issue I've had with B&Q chelmsford, the most recent being a £45 can of Ronseal gloss diamond hard floor varnish that is actually satin. First can I've found like it, but it was satin, not gloss - a fact proven by opening an old can of gloss I hadn't quite finished and using it on the same item. Are you selling 10-year old stock that's gone past it's sell-by and use-by date B&Q?
