Unstuck of Cardiff - 8 months ago

The paper itself is probably great, one person should be able to paper a ceiling, as the backing makes it stiff and easy to handle - BUT - B&Q recommends to purchase STANDARD wallpaper adhesive - which I duly bought. Mixed the paste, covered the first strip on the ceiling, lifted the paper, pushed it home, adhesive was immediately absorbed by the polystyrene backing and the paper would not stay up. The problem is when you read Erfurts/Anaglypta specific instructions (which you can only read from the back of the label after you get the paper home and open the packing) "We recommend Wallrock Thermal adhesive......we cannot accept responsibility for adhesion problems". This adhesive is 'polystyrene adhesive' and would be correct for the job. BUT B&Q NOT SELL POLYSTYRENE WALLPAPER ADHESIVE - INSTEAD THEY SELL YOU THE NORMAL PAPER ADHESIVE. Result - I've wasted a morning preparing for this job, wasted 5L of paste, had to scrape the paste off the ceiling, wasted 1/3 of a roll of expensive insulating paper and now have to shop somewhere else to get the right adhesive, oh and another roll of paper, as the three rolls I originally had was just enough for the job with trimming.

Pva and Paste.

I read people recommending the correct paste for this. I'm sure it works but it is very expensive. Try about 1 liter of pva to 4 liters of paste. It worked fine for me even on the ceiling. Mix the pva first.

Needs a lot of time and patience !

I’m a professional decorator of nearly 30 years.I enjoy hanging wallpaper ,but this product in my opinion is not meant for painting over .If you hung a wallpaper over the top ,them maybe ok!
Hope nobody else wants me to decorate ,with this product.Every joint and top and bottom needed filling.

This works well

I read other peoples reviews after buying this product and it worried me.
Now having done the project I would like to ask where others have been going wrong. B&Q do not sell the right adhesive, I had to buy it from another supplier. Its called Wallrock Thermal Adhesive. Don't be stingy putting it on the wall, use a thick roller and leave a texture that looks like woodchip paper. Be quick, it has about 4 minutes working time. I cut the sections on the floor first, which made it easier. Someone said it kept rolling back up, so I weighed down my cut outs on the floor and left them to settle for about four hours. I cut everything to about 5mm undersize, butted the sections to each other and then filled around the outside with mastic filler. JOB DONE

Used this several times in my home, some rooms over 4 years ago. This stuff is tricky to put up but be patient, careful & gentle and it's no problem. I'm no decorator and I managed therefore so can you!!
TIP. ONLY use the Wallrock thermal liner adhesive with a roller or brush & apply liberally. 1 big tub for 3 rolls I used this time round & all appears great.
Leaves a great finish especially when wallpapering over, soft to the touch, some noise cancellation & helps to retain heat.
Negative is that it can dent if pressed causing damage so would not recommend for children or busy thoroughfare.
That aside, take your time & use the correct adhesive & you won't be disappointed ...Trust me!!
