Useful bit of kit
This external valve allows you to end the soil vent much lower than the roofline. Flopast say that the valve "allows the pipe to terminate...200mm minimum above the highest wet entry point to the soil vent pipe." I used it to replace a similar internal version and free up the space in the bathroom. Apparantly the internal versions cannot be used outside because they are prone to freezing and getting blocked with insects. I am not sure that insects would be prevented from getting into this one though. The valve is very easy to fit onto a standard 110mm soil pipe - it's a push-fit and fits tightly with the strong rubber seal. I used the black version so it blends nicely with the other pipework. Flopast do recommend that you clean inside annually. B&Q's price was the cheapest I found for this. I've dropped one star on the ratings as I do think it is pricey for what it is (although worth the money for the hassle it saves). It has been in place a few weeks - I can only assume that it is doing its job.
