Quality a lot worse than previously!

I've used these shelves often for store cupboard and in the shed. Purchased this time round and was shocked at the quality. The wood was warped. The pre drilled holes were not straight. There was a knot and hole where you were supposed to attached the shelves and 2 of the shelves were too big and stuck out the end and didn't fit flush. I wasn't expecting a piece of furniture to leave in my will but what I got was pretty bad and not at all like the previous ones I have purchased from b&q. We made it work with some modification and we are using it but we're disappointed as expecting better.

Form Storage Unit

I am really pleased with how sturdy the unit is and had another one delivered for my daughter. The only thing I would say is that I don't think they would be something you would have on show. There was a small problem with screws lost, 16 in total as they were in flimsy plastic bags. The pine unit is tied together with nylon strapping and no plastic to cover the wood. So you will have dirty marks on the wood in places when it arrives that don't wash off, and sticky labels stuck on the wood that is almost impossible to peel off.

Just what we needed

We needed storage shelves for a cupboard and two of these were great, they fit in and give us so much space.

EAsy and effective shelving

Shelves arrived promptly and without fuss, delivered to my neighbour for me to collect later. They were easy to assemble and are sturdy with well drilled holes that matched up well. We found it easiest to put all the screws partly into the holes on the long struts, then attach 2 of the shelves to 1 strut, to create a stable base and then work along adding the other shelves and the other struts. Worked well and swiftly - put them up in about 1 hour (2 sets of these shelves) with 1 of us working on it all the time and the other occasionally adding assistance. The shelves look stylish either side of my woodburning stove, creating a sort of "alcove" effect on that plain wall. We put the shelves at slightly different levels, so that they accommodate a TV/DVD player, CD player etc. In this 1970's house, they look about right - plain and "modern" looking with the light wood. Sturdy enough to handle books and electronic equipment well

Check first before assembling...

I earnestly suggest you check everything before you start to assemble this product. It should include 32 screws in four polythene packets but these packets are very flimsy and if you are unlucky (like me) you find several packets burst open and some screws missing. As for "stylish storage solution for any room in the house", only if you paint the wood. My units were covered in dirty footprints. As a functional product for use in the garage or workshop, these shelves are fine and good value but do check all the screws have been supplied.

So many stickers...

Shelf - very sturdy and nice solid pine shelf Packaging - no packaging apart from 4 strands of woven mesh BUT 4 x A5 size name stickers, manufacturer stickers, barcode and another sticker on each of the two packs ... really?? Took 40 mins to peel the residues off. Do you really need to have the customer's address 4 times on the front, would 1 sticker not suffice? Besides blue stains on two of the shelves, overall nice shelves, cheap price and good communication re delivery - phone call 20 mins before the van arrived and 2 messages to confirm the day. Happy but too many stickers B&Q team - I suggest the sticker happy person has to peel off 10 shelf packages for training purposes ;)
