Do not buy

Brought this last month it leaves white marks everywhere. Do not buy, I would do 0 stars if I could

Awful!

I bought this to paint a mirror. Put it over the paint as directed and it made all the paint crack and feel off. The paint was absolutely fine until I applied the lacquer then it ruined the paint.

Easy to use and fair value for money

Easy to use and reasonable price. Compared favourably with other manufacturers previously used.

Ruined my table!

Dried with white patches. The he black almost looks a bluet tinge now. Not happy 😡

Great product

Bit of trial and error but if you apply a really thin amount and dont let it dry its great. Used a foam roller, dont keep playing with it once its on and its good. Will buy again for sure.

Absolute rubbish!

I bought this as a varnish to go over Good Home furniture paint, as recommended on the side of the paint tin. Do not buy this finishing lacquer, it is absolute rubbish. Has left all white streaky marks on my freshly painted table. I am going to ring B&Q and ask for a refund.

Good home finishing lacquer - AVOID

Save your money and your time. This product is a total let down , this lacquer has destroyed the work done, total disappointment. After taking my time applying thin coats of B&Q good home Liberty flat Matt furniture paint. The 2 layers of dark paint now totally ruined and looking like after the 12 hours I’m now going to have to wait for this letdown lacquer to dry, I will need to apply more paint over to try and rectify the white paint marks.

Avoid

I bought this after spending much time painting a customers kitchen cupboards which were immaculate, when I started to apply its watery consistency knowing it would have to be worked out with the roller after a few minutes and went back to roller out all the bubbles and white streaks the stuff had already gone off and set!!! Wasted my time and money!! Avoid if you want a professional job this stuff is like glue!

Good product if you know how to use it properly

I have never used furniture lacquer before, so I don’t have any experience to compare to other brands. I usually use wax to finish my furniture projects, but I wanted tougher protection on my son’s bedroom furniture. So I read the reviews before buying this paint that mentioned “milky” streaks, but I also read a couple that said it was a good product. I decided to give it a go, but wasn’t expecting the best result.. it’s been a learning curve! Firstly, I’d like to mention that this product dries incredibly fast, which I found massively contributed to the “milky” finish. At the beginning l, I applied using a brush. In at least one of the reviews, it was mentioned not to put to much product on. I found this made the problem worse, but you can’t put too much on either because it just looks awful. The trick is to know how much to put on, but more importantly (and I really cannot express enough), you have to know when to stop working the lacquer! It really does dry incredibly quickly! Stop brushing/ rollering before it starts to dry.. so work quickly. If you keep trying to get the milky streaks out as it’s drying it will look worse. After consulting good old google, I found heat is your best friend! Apparently it’s is the moisture in the lacquer itself that causes the milky effect. My technique/process: Use a brush with adequate, but not too much/too little lacquer on the areas that can’t be rollered. Then on larger/flatter surfaces, use a roller (I used a foam roller). Push the lacquer onto the surface with the roller and spread evenly. Then using the roller (very lightly/no pressure, only just touching the surface) roll over the surface until there are hardly any “bubble marks”, then use a hairdryer/heat gun on the surface, evaporate the moisture. It really is an art, but if I mastered it (albeit near the end of my project), then anyone can. I suggest you try this technique on a more obscure area first. If lacquer gives better protection in the long run, then it’s worth it.

best way to use ..

if your using a roller best to lay off after with a decent paint brush , it removes the white staining effect that people have mentioned .it drys quicker than instructed and i recoated on a warm day within an hour . make sure your roller ,brush and roller tray are new ,for best results lay off straight after rolling ,
