Good builders, not so great for render.

This is more like builders sand than plastering sand, is it possible to get it without stone or supplied with a micron sieve?
versatile sharp 0-3mm sand, pointing & render
JD Hampshire - 4 months ago
I've used this sand with NHL 3.5 for bricklaying & pointing over the past couple of years, and have also used it for some exterior render (OPC:Sand 1:6), no problems with any jobs so far (no issues with cracking / shrinkage etc.). Provided you're laying a bed of render (or repointing) that's ~3mm depth, you'll be fine with this grade - granted, you'll struggle to feather it out without needing to brush out the courser aggregate.
Save your sanity do not use this sand

This is meant to be for plastering, the only way I can see it being usable if you were applying 5-10mm thickness at a time. The bags either have inch wide pieces of black stone or the stones have been ground down to small stones which drag through the mix as you try to smooth it over. I spent ages with a stick flicking them out of the render I'd mixed which doubled my time doing the job. Never again!
full of small stones

Oh how I wish I had read these reviews before picking this up in store for rendering garage walls. the gravelly stones are small enough to get through mixing and only become apparent when spreading it. They just raked through the render and made it impossible to apply and far to many to pick out. this should be taken off sale. its a disgrace they are still selling it after all the reviews pointing this out!
Poor quality

Full of pebbles and the odd 10mm stone - when are you going to fix this product B&Q???
