  • Surface Preparation - How to prepare bare wood for painting: Use 120 grit sandpaper to lightly sand your wood for an even finish. Sand in the direction of the grain. Once the dust has settled, wipe the area with white spirit. Any holes or cracks can be filled in with wood filler. You should also stop knots showing through your new paint job with knot blocker. How to prepare previously painted wood: The type of sandpaper you need to use depends on the quality of your paint. If your old paint isn’t flaking and is still in a good condition, use 240 grit sandpaper and just lightly sand the surface. If the paint is cracked or flaking, use 120 grit sandpaper. Sand flaking paint back to the bare wood. This is easiest to do with an electric sander. Once the dust has settled, wipe it away with white spirit and a damp cloth. Fill any holes or cracks with wood filler and prevent knots from darkening with knot blocker.

It’s a tin of ext. paint - very expensive paint!

I just don’t understand how paint has become so ridiculously expensive … cant help thinking someone is having a laugh at the average British punters expense … after all brits are known to be some of the biggest mugs in the world … and don’t get me wrong, I am one of that crowd On the tin it says it will last 10years before re coat … at this price it had better but I won’t know for another 10 years!

Not used product yet but Ronseal always excellent

Not used product yet but bought Ronseal as a good quality product

Poor. Not quite what it says on the tin.

The paint went on ok and covered reasonably well. It was bright enough but not that great compared to expectations of what a white gloss should be.i ended up painting over it with conventional white gloss.

Rubbish

We bought this paint as we had used it in green for the front door. It did not cover or paint the same at all. It was more like an undercoat. Ronseal were good and refunded us, excellent customer service. Quality of paint was just not there! Shame as it would cut down on time spent painting.

Great coverage considering the terrible reviews

I painted our door frame with this and have most of a can left over for other projects, I needed 3 coats which I’d have expected. My advice is stir stir stir, I found once I had properly mixed this for a couple of minutes it really thickened up and went on well. I was worried by the negative reviews but have been left with a lovely finish and zero dripping!

Easy to use, dries quickly

I found this paint applied well, thinner than gloss but much better to use as was quick to dry

KennyMac123 - 2 / 5 - 05/05/2022

Far too thin

I mixed it well, but it was still far too thin… was like milk. Didn’t go on well at at all.

Just awful

I really wish I hadn’t bought this paint whether it will ever really cover anything I have my doubts. Certainly brushes clean easily but then as the paint is so thin it’s not surprising. At best it looks satin. £25 wasted.

Does the lot

I’m writing this review to put the record straight. I rated the paint as excellent based on my experience of painting my dark wooden front door with it about 4 years ago. Although the price appears to be expensive there is no need to buy primer or undercoat as this paint does the lot. I used about 500ml to apply 3 coats to both sides of the door and have kept the remainder for touching up although it has not been necessary to do any repairs. I was prepared to apply 3 coats on the basis that primer, undercoat and gloss would have been needed for any other paint although after 2 coats it had covered over the dark stained door quite well. I’m not sure why others have not been happy with this paint but I would highly recommend it and can vouch for its longevity.

Awful

It's disgusting they sell this, it is like water and B and Q are not accepting calls!!! I'm a pensioner and paid 20 pound on a taxi to buy this rubbish! After sanding all down the front door paintwork, found out its useless.
