Avoid this product it's not fit for purpose

Bought nearly £400.00 of this stuff to paint a large deck with 2 coats of this so called "Ultimate Decking Stain". The 2-year-old deck was prepared as per the instruction and was painted with two coats over a couple of warm dry days in May 2020. If you had asked me for a review when the job was finished I would’ve given it a 5 star review as it looked amazing - almost like it looked on the tin. Fast Forward one winter and less than a year later and the deck looks worse than it did before it was painted. The decking stain has flaked off nearly everywhere leaving the deck looking horrendously patchy and looking like the deck is 20 years old!! Don’t waste your money on this rubbish - it is not fit for purpose.

Colour Nothing Like Wood Sample In Store

I bought this a few days ago. The colour is very orange & much brighter than the sample in store. Thankfully i Tried on a sample piece of wood first, applied well, very watery, dried fairly quickly but I'm now left with a full 5ltr which I cant use. ( didnt have smaller 2.5 ltr ) Very disappointed as this is one of the more expensive decking oils

Great colour stain, nice warm tones

This is a two year old deck that was previously stained with a similar colour. It was faded and worn so pressure washed it, left it to dry for 3 days and then took to sweeping, sanding with a 3M SandBlaster block and hoovered all debris off. I applied with a brush and gave the decking two coats and the end result is the picture below. Very pleased with the result. I felt the stain went a long way, but again it was not new wood, I bought a 2.5L tin and have 2/3 left! Also the stain is not too runny, which means hardly no flick mess! It has rained since and no faded patches yet, I did this yesterday and then saw previous review on here, so shall keep an eye and update this review if it goes wrong. Clean up was good, as its soapy water to clean brushes

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

Bought 2 tins of this to do decking which is 6 years old. Followed the instructions to the letter {preparing decking and applying stain} and I will admit the decking looked like I wanted it to be. I bought the Ultimate because it is advertised as lasting twice as long. 6 months down the line I wish I had left it the way it was - what a mess. It has lifted everywhere including underneath a table that has a cover over it and gets very little weather. I contacted Ronseal who have just sent me an email with a dozen questions of when I applied it, how old the decking is, what kind of wood etc etc { you get the picture} but the worst thing is they said - and I quote - ''Our Decking Stains are an annual treatment'' {why sell a product that they say lasts twice as long as the other product they have - I guess you would have to do that twice a year then}. I will have to strip it all back and looking at the revues for the stripper they recommend I am dreading - even thou Ronseal say it is very easy and hassle free to use {basically falls off} - not according to other users it isnt. I thought after buying this product I would just have to touch little bits and pieces on it with wear and tear then down the line do it all over again {acceptable} but not every year. After all the hard work and money spent over the years getting the garden the way I want it I know have an eyesore to view as soon as I walk out the door. Avoid this product like the plague
