Exellant Tap at a bargain price.

The canister tap I bought was such a lovely tap, I went back to B and Q 's and bought another one for our cloakroom.

Great

I am very happy with the price I paid for this tap would recommend

Stick to standards - 1 / 5 - 27/01/2018

Too many non standard accessories.

Be cautious when buying this tap. Ultra thin unique flexi tails. The 10mm thread to taps is not quite the same 10mm as on conventional tails. Weird connection system to pipe work. A ceramic adaptor to convert it to 15mm compression thread. You will never find a replacement to match if they ever fail. And why 450mm long? By the time you have added the ceramic adaptor, an isolating valve and the 15mm pipe fittings they are almost to the floor! As most sink cabinets have backs you will need to destroy most of the back to a) fit the valve etc. And b) if you ever want to access the valve. Impossible to find a compatible 300mm tail. if my time was worth money I would have paid for this tap several times over with the wasted hours I have put in.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

The style of the Calista top mounted basin mixer was what first attracted me enough to purchase it. On opening my purchase, I was impressed with the quality of the product. But, however, on reading the fitting instructions, I was less than impressed with the extremely basic and limited directions. What was missing was any form of written directions to accompany each of the Fig references. Many pointing arrows which mean very little to someone new to this method of installation. Written, step by step, direction explaining each of the drawings would have made the whole operation much easier to understand. Anyway, what was wrong with the the old tried, tested and simpler method on installation from beneath the basin?

Great looking but completely impractical

Bought this for en suite update with new basin and toilet having seen them on display together. They were fairly easy to fit but the first feeling of trepidation was when I saw the very small bore hoses. After fitting, everything looked great until actually turning on the tap when the trickle coming out when only the hot or cold position was selected was pathetic, when combined hot and cold position was selected it was barely good enough. While our header tank is at least 2mtrs above the tap the flow is still not good enough. Definitely not suitable for gravity fed system. Will be replacing them shortly with a Bristan tap with copper tails which will give a superior flow. Will just have to swallow the hit for this good looking but completely impractical tap.

Difficult to fit

Fitting method is by a separate 'cartridge' that fits to the basin with 2 screws. The tap then fits on to this cartridge in a bayonet style push down and turn, then locks with a grub screw. The cartridge has "front" marked on it, but fitting in this orientation forces the cartridge to pull down to one side, as the 2 fitting screws are offset to one side. It also forces the two flexible connectors to foul against the fitting. After a frustrating hour or so, I took it all out and was going to return it, but (to save time and money) thought I would try with the cartridge aligned differently. This time, "Front" was ignored, and is facing the side somewhere. The two fixing screws are to the rear of the cartridge. Fixing with sanitary silicone, allowing a good excess bead onto which the tap is seated, and the grub screw tightened. Although the bayonet fastening system is now redundant, I'm hoping the grub screw and the silicone will hold the tap in place. Time will tell!

Warning: unsuitable for some installations

The specifications for this tap state that it is suitable for high and low pressure applications. But when installed in a flat where the hot water tank is in a cupboard on the same floor as the bathroom the narrow tail pipes will only allow a meagre trickle of water through. B and Q is a DIY store and the average person buying this tap cannot be expected to know that 0.2 bar minimum pressure means you need at least 2 metres height difference between tap and hot tank to make this tap work. Hence a total waste of time and money because of a complete lack of useful information.

Good looking but incomplete/poor design features

Very narrow feed tails come with adaptors to suit 1/2" (15mm) standard tap connectors, but too small for use with gravity-fed systems - not mentioned in suitability guide. Also NO WASHERS FOR WASTE, so yet another trip to dear ol' B&Q to get the only ones they stock, which are just a bit too small for this waste when fitted to the Castalia Vanity unit/basin (ie it will leak). The tap body is a loose fit on the bayonet-style base, held on by a single grub screw which is inadequate. The base is a nice idea but needs padding or the grip feet will crack the ceramic. Another reasonable concept let down by poor detail design.
