Delivered on time and well packed and that's it for the good points, really disappoint with the quality of this wood very poor! loads of splits and knots, was really shocked as I read all the reviews and it sounded great so makes me think if they have changed there supplier. !! Need to make it clear on here its for internal use not external !!

Good quality

I am always sceptical about buying cladding on line as sometimes many have the tongue or the groove split , all arrived well packed , well protected used it all with no wasted planks

Better than I imagined

Bought this item to line a shower wet room some years back! I knew it was really not the right environment, so I coated the individual pieces both sides with good quality polyurethane external varnish (from B&Q) and then face nailed to carcassing timber with lost head nails. (the fixing clips method is awful to use and I kept getting sore thumbs, so never used them again). On completion I gave the finished cladding two more coats of poly varnish and sealed borders against tiling with clear sealant. After many, many showers and the associated steamy atmosphere the cladding still looks as if it has just been erected. Still flat with no warping or splitting.
Have used it in many locations, either varnished or painted. Always without problems. The secret of warp prevention is to seal both sides of the wood and it prevents knot drop-out.
Using the same technique, I now intend to buy more to do the swimming pool roof lining!

Excellent Quality

Delivered direct from the manufacturer by courier. Well packed and without damage. Bubble wrapped with two shrink wrapped packs of five in each outer.

The cladding was excellent quality, straight and well machined. I haven't bought better at twice this price in the past twenty years.

It says clearly on the pack 'for internal use'. That should solve the 'advice' problems above. BUT having worked in the timber trade and as a carpenter for many years all I can personally state is that it is WOOD. Fairly close grained and well sourced for the purpose of cladding. The problem with exterior use would be expansion in damp/wet conditions, causing warping and bowing in a relatively thin section.

I am using some for exterior use. This will be well treated with an oil/spirit based preservative with battens at a maximum of 400mm centres. With exterior work I will face nail or screw as appearance is not so critical. From experience this should be adequate to avoid severe problems but there may be some deviations from a flat plane over time.

Whether it is suitable for a purpose is down to the user and I would suggest that if people do not have the knowledge to make a 'judgement call' and take responsibility for the consequences they should avoid doing the job in the first place. Suitability is not a 'yes or no' it is a 'maybe' or 'it depends'.

When it all comes down to it, at this price I think the risk is worth taking even if the manufacturer doesn't.
