Not good value.
Bought this today. I had to spend all morning with a file and sharpening stones to get a perfect cutting edge. Before that it was literaly flat and bounced off any logs. The hickory the handle is made from is soft and brittle and the head is already coming loose after a few hours splitting on the very first day !!!. Will need a new handle putting on very soon at more expense. Buy cheap buy twice

Spear & Jackson 4.5 LB Axe
Nice AXE feels nice to hold and swing, just a shame about the fact that the BLADE has a LOVELY FLAT across its supposedly SHARP Bit. It still splits Logs with Brute Force and BLISS ?!! Will have to spend some time with a nice Sharpening Stone to get rid of the FLAT. Once SHARPENED it looks like it will do the job nicely. Also pleased that B&Q Staff managed to get me the Rubber Cover that covers the "SHARP EDGE" well I hope it will be soon after some Work on it.

Quality product
Some buyers have complained that the blade is not 'razor sharp' as described in Spear & Jackson's description. And it isn't. Which is probably a comfort to other shoppers in the B&Q store!! But why buy a quality axe and not have the tools to sharpen it? See Ray Mears' Youtube video on axe use and sharpening. I bought the Gransfors Bruks Axe Sharpening Stone and it has given a super edge to a great axe!

Chops even the biggest lumps of wood up without problem, operator dependant of course!
