Really good primer
I bought this as an undercoat of some furniture I am renovating. It is easy to apply, I used a roller. It provides a strong base for your top coat.

Poor product
Very poor quality. Poor opacity and generally poor product. Its not even a good undercoat for normal applications let alone difficult surfaces. I'll stick with trade products or big brands in future. Im a professional decprator so thought id give it a go but i wouldnt use it for a customer. I expect problems down the line as the adhesion is poor even on normal surfaces. Its peeling off a aurface that has been sanded and degreased!

Great product
I bought this product to paint my cupboards and it worked great as a primer, I didn't have to sand anything.

Ideal for difficult surface
Proper primer for a difficult surface, primed our ceramic interior pots lovely! Strange to see reviewers want to cover bold colours and do exterior jobs with this product, read the label!

Very poor for obscuring dark colours
Described as covering bold colours then so would water and has about the same obscuring properties. It may be a good primer for “difficult surfaces” but I expected it to cover the underlying dark surface as pictured on the tin. It does not! If you’re painting over a dark surface with a lighter colour don’t waste your money on this.

Did not work
I bought this on the recommendation of a store colleague. I used it on a ceramic sink pedestal as an undercoat for spray paint. It has crackled and run leaving an irregular finish with patches where the undercoat is visible. I used it in the garden and think it should be used in dry conditions.

Does not do what it says on the tin
I have had the same issue as the other reviewers.. Surely we can't all be doing it wrong! I sanded and left to dry the recommended time, applied second coat, again left to dry the recommended time and painted, I was sold 2tins of this, what a waste of money. I applied the valspar wood and metal paint directly on to the melamine and THAT stayed on with no primer! I scratched my nail down it and not a shred came off, bizarre

paint scratches off
I too am having the same trouble I haven't yet put a gloss coat on the furniture the surface was shiny therfore I sanded it first put on the first coat of valspar difficult surface primer left for 2 days i have applied the second coat however just scraping my nail across it comes off . Not sure what i am doing wrong

Should have trusted the tile paint
Needed to paint some mosaic tiles but was worried about just painting them with tile paint so thought I`d use this primer first, as it does say for use on tiles. Put 3 coats on as changing blue tiles to white . The blue still showed through but worst thing was I caught a tile with my fingernail and the paint scratched off. I thought maybe with the tile paint on top it would be better but no it still scratches off. Stuck with it now as I can`t afford to scrape it all off and start again. Very upset as it`s spoilt the job I was doing. Used Valspar paint many times but not this product before.
