One of these spikes snapped clean off in the high winds we have just experienced. I thought steel was supposed to be very tough

Poorly made

Spike broke away from post after 3 months with first gust of wind!

Too flimsy to be much use

I bought several of these to make an 8ft high frame to support my blackberries. The moment I started hammering them into the ground I knew this was going to be as much as I would trust them with. The spike started to twist as soon as it hit a root.
I certainly wouldn't trust them with even a 4 foot fence in anything but the most sheltered position. Put them in an exposed position with 5 or 6 foot fence panels and they would sway in the wind. This item has been made to a price, reducing the thickness of the metal to a point where it is too thin to do its job properly.
The screws provided to fix the post in the socket are not the most suitable, either, having Torx heads and a thread that makes them difficult to drive into the post, even with an industrial quality battery screwdriver
I shan't be buying any more of these, preferring to search out the original Metpost variety & pay a more for quality.

Does the job well that I wanted them for.

Bought 9 of these when making a framework to support 3 nets for peas and beans. Why anyone would make a spike for 45 x 45 mm timber I can't understand because that is not a readily available standard size (what used to be 2" x 2" timber is usually sold these days as 47 x 47 mm). However, I was cutting down larger sections of timber and so was able to cut my uprights to fit and it didn't matter to me. At £3 each they were great value and nicely keep the base of the uprights out of the ground, hopefully giving them a few more years life before they start to weather.

Sturdy spike

I bought this fence spike to hold a support for a soft fruit net. It is very sturdy and, being narrower than spikes from other manufacturers, it was easier to hammer into place. The price - excellent value for money.
