After purchasing this fire place surround overall looks good.
Please read other reviews and take note this is required to be fitted by a professional.
Dont be fooled like i was incurring extra costs for fitting.
Having said that fireplace looks great.

Purchased this fireplace a week ago and set about fitting it, I am a joiner and builder so I know what I am doing. Fit the back panel against the chimney wall and built it all around that, but guess what, there was a two inch gap on the side panels, not right, went back to b& q who phoned tech support who said back panel does not fit against wall but had to be packed out with wood, foam or plasterboard so the gas fire is not sat in the chimney breast, do had to take it all apart knock off cement before it set, purchase gas fittings to extend pipe and start again, end product looks good but it would be very difficult for the average d.I.yer or if you were paying someone to fit it for you it would cost a fortune so beware

    Really NOT DIY

This is not for an average diy'er as it requires two people to build. The fitting kit and instruction leaflet proved to be almost useless. The real problem is that there is no way to accurately assemble and align the two side and horizontal sections. A simple doweling or slot arrangement would make it very much simpler and safer to assemble the 3 main sections and then secure this to the wall with 2 or 4 screws rather than having to use 8 screws for 3 separate items. The backing panel has no method of being secured either, why it doesn't clip to the side panels beats me. My fitter used brick packing between the wall and the backing panel to stop it moving.

With just a little re-engineering of the assembly and alignment method it could well be installed by an AVERAGE diy'er (with a little help).

The finished surround looks really good, after but a lot of fiddly work.

Quality product, but needs diy skills

All of the pieces of this fireplace are heavy and needs 2 people during installation. Instructions could be clearer. Also, it would help if the manufacturer built in some dowels or rebates to ease the mating of one piece to another. However, if you are reasonably competent at diy and take your time, the result is very good. One tip - make sure the hearth is bedded down on sand/cement, tile adhesive etc really level. If you take care here, the rest will be plain sailing.

    DIYers beware

This product is certainly not for DIY. Even the professional I employed to fit it found it a challenge. The fitting kit and instruction leaflet proved to be almost useless. There appears to be no way to attach the brackets to the marble parts, and the instructions stated only that appropriate methods must be used to do this. No clue as to what to use was given. The backing panel has no method of being secured, and is therefore subject to being pushed back. My professional fitter used two lengths of 4 X 2 timber, screwed to the wall to stop it moving, then assembled the whole thing using tile adhesive on all of the joints. Had it not been for his professionalism and ingenuity, the whole thing would have had to go back. However, once he had overcome these hurdles, the finished product looks very good.
