I bought this last November, when it was a lot cheaper and the reviews were pretty good. We had it installed and followed the guidelines to "break it in". Come January when the weather changed, we had it on it set off our carbon monoxide alarm constantly. After alerting B&Q to the problem, the company who made it phoned us and stated that it was because we were using coal (smokeless and not the cheap stuff!). However, the problem was not the fuel - it was that the door had buckled and didn't form a seal, it became dangerous for us and our small children - so now we are waiting for a solution that seems to be coming from B&Q (who have been very quick to respond) and not the company who made this product.

This really is a great fire. It was easy to fit and didn't need a flue. It's easy to light and a bag of wood goes a long way. And with the top vent open & the bottom vent closed the glass actually cleans itself, clever...

Great for price

Had this fire about a month. Fitted easily into a standard 16" fire back, without any cutting. Fixed with one rawl bolt through the hearth, and a wing nut clamping arm the pulls the top of the fire inwards against the fire surround. Vent sliders have only a small amount of travel but work fine. Nice to see free mini pot of touch up paint and heat resistant glove included in the packing. Problem with the rawl bolt spinning, making it difficult to tighten, and ongoing problem of wood ash spillage when the door opened. Have emailed the maker about the ash problem 6 days ago, and now waiting for (any) response.

Purchased this fire to replace gas effect fire - Installed by local builder & approved by building control (legal requirement if not using Hetas installer) the fire is just amazing. Watch the advertised price, this fire has sold for as low as £250
