Purchased and fitted this bell. It only pinged once for each bell push then sounded more like a buzzer. Returned and replaced. Same thing, single ping then just a buzz. On investigation it looks like the hammer is too short to hit the bell continually, hence the buzz. I have today soldered a piece of brass rod into a piece of brass tube that is a tight fit in the hammer, clamped the tube onto the hammer thus increasing it's length slightly. It now works as a bell should - it rings constantly when the bell push is pressed.

Attractive, traditional bell

The instructions on this bell are quite clear - you adjust the centre screw to alter the tone. Loosening it makes it louder and to ring for longer, and it should be sited so it doesn't touch anything else. My husband, who is handy at wiring but not a qualified electrician, installed this - about the size of a small tin of tuna, to replace an ugly 1970's plastic box the size of a box of tissues. It rings for as long as the visitor presses the bell push, with a traditional-sounding tone (not a "ding-dong"). Great for a large house or a hard of hearing home owner, but not so loud as to be annoying.

Looks nice but a bit weak

I am having my house refurbished so had a qualified electrician fit this and a new transformer as part of the work. He struggled to make it work. We have it installed but rather than a consistent ring the striker only hits the dome a couple times then seem to give up.
