Product information

Add a burst of vibrant colour to your garden, even during the dreary winter months, with Cornus sanguinea 'Winter Flame.' This hardy shrub is renowned for being one of the best for winter colour, offering a dazzling display that will uplift your garden. During summer, it boasts lush green foliage and delicate white flowers, followed by glossy black berries. As autumn approaches, the leaves transform into a fiery shade of red, contrasting with its stunning orange, yellow, and red stems. This deciduous shrub is not only visually striking but also incredibly versatile, making it an excellent addition to cottage gardens or as a low-maintenance specimen plant. Expect a mature height of up to 300cm and a spread of 250cm. Supplied as a pot-grown plant in a 9cm nursery pot.

    • Borders in Sunny areas
    • Moist, fertile & well drained Average garden soil
    • Planting period - August to DecemberFlowering period - May - June
    • Water dogwood plants regularly throughout the growing season until fully established. After two years, Cornus will benefit from regular pollarding to encourage the brightest winter stems. Prune Cornus hard in early spring by cutting back all stems to within 3 buds of the base or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of dogwood shrubs in spring.
    • Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten and the leaves may be irritant to skin and eyes. Plant Cornus in a sunny position, in any well drained soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Cornus will happily grow in improved clay soils.
