How to fit ceiling lights

How to fit ceiling lights

A standard single pendant light fitting near the centre of the ceiling can sometimes leave a lot to be desired. As long as you can get to the ceiling void from above without too much disruption, it's not complicated to move a light to wherever you really need it. Alternatively, you can boost your light levels by adding extra pendants which you operate either by the existing switch or by a new one. You'll find that pre-wired lampholder-plus-flex combinations are widely available.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bright light Although listed as an outside light, I bought the silver version for a bathroom. It's got a decent light output with a very even distribution of light - much better than some of the ceiling fittings which accept low energy lamps. Perhaps they should be called low brightness lamps. My only complaint is the poor design of the terminal block. It's tiny, and a fiddle to wire whilst holding the fitting. It would have been far more sensible to have a plug and socket arrangement so that the fitting could then just be plugged in when offering it to the base. It's very light weight and 100% plastic in construction. Can't help feeling it's a little overpriced at £38.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems ok This is the only lamp I could find that was for the roof of an outdoor porch. Goes up ok, Goes together ok. Provides light when switched on. Looks pretty good

Rated 2 out of 5 by from An absolute pain to fit Brought for use in kitchen and bathroom. Unless you have a lot of excess cable coming from your ceiling this is very troublesome to fit. The size of the fitting means you must hold it at a low angle in order to attach wires to the tiny circuit board. As another reviewer has said, it's very fiddly. And then once wired you have to keep fingers crossed that they won't come out when you screw the light to the base. Also, once light bulb has gone, the whole thing will need replacing. I can't wait for that.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not much use for a ceiling light replacement! I bought this to fit as a ceiling light in an upstairs toilet. However, on opening up the package, I found it only had provision for two wires, live and neutral. I had wrongly assumed it would have the usual terminal block as found in a ceiling light rose. Apart from that, I guess it's fine, although very expensive for what it is.
