Get excited about gardening with our Purple Passion Asparagus. This variety produces a unique and attractive purple shade of spear that can be thrown into salads raw for a pop of colour to add to your palate.
- Any type of soil
- harvest period May-June
- Choose a sheltered sunny spot, avoiding frost pockets. The soil should be well dug, incorporating well-rotted manure or compost. Remove the packaging and soak the plants in water for 1-2 hours. Dig a trench 20cm deep and 30cm wide, then make a ridge of soil 10cm high down the centre of the trench. Place plants 30cm apart on top of the ridge with the roots spread out on either side. Fill in the trench with soil leaving just the tips of the crowns visible. Water in well. Space rows 45cm apart. Water well and mulch with compost or well-rotted manure in dry spells. Apply a general fertiliser in early spring in subsequent years.
