Product information

This clear floor varnish from the Ronseal Diamond range can be applied to interior using a brush or roller. The varnish dries in just 30 minutes and will cover up to 18 m² per litre on average.

  • Gives floors Diamond Hard protection from shoes, scratches and spills, while highlighting the natural beauty of the wood.
  • Surface Preparation - Make sure the room is warmer than 10 degrees, remove your furniture and open the doors and windows. Wear a mask when sanding the floors to avoid inhaling dust. How to prepare unvarnished floors: Prepping before varnishing will help the varnish stick evenly and give you better results. Sand along the length of your floorboards with 120 grit sandpaper. (Helpful hint: It’s quicker and easier to use a floor sander). Let the dust settle and run the vacuum around before wiping the floor down with white spirit. If you spot any holes or imperfections, use our Multi-purpose Wood Filler to fill them in. How to prepare varnished floors: Lightly sand your floor with 120 grit sandpaper. If your old varnish is flaking off, use a floor sander to sand back to the bare wood. Let the dust settle, vacuum it up and then wipe down your floor with white spirit.
  • Instructions for Use - Give the varnish a really good stir and test the colour on a small patch to make sure you’re happy with it. Use a 4” brush and start in the corner furthest from the door. Work along the length of two floorboards at a time, just make sure you don’t get trapped in the corner! Wait two hours for the first coat to dry before applying another. For the best protection, you’ll need three coats. Before you start the third coat, very lightly sand along the length of your floorboards with 240 grit sandpaper. You won’t need a floor sander for this bit. Wipe the floor down with a damp cloth and then apply the third coat. Your floor will be ready to walk on in only two hours. Wait 24 hours before bringing your furniture back in. After 72 hours your floor will be diamond hard.

No good goes milky when it gets wet

Put over 4 coats on but still 2 weeks later goes milky with any water or moisture will be sanding off and using an oil based product

Not diamond hard

Disappointing finish, easy to apply and dries fast but doesn’t produce a hard finish on floorboards. Sub par product for the price

Floor Varnish with exceptional customer service

Fantastic varnish and have used this product before. We visited B+Q in the Durham branch Eden Terrace Belmont. We were not aware of the discount on offer in store and our cashier Pauline offered us exceptional service. She was friendly and helped us to save £11 at checkout. Thank you very much.

Not as good as it used to be

I used this on a floor about 10 years ago without complaint, but I’ve recently bought a new tin to do floors in my new home and this does not appear to be the same quality as of old. The floor easily marks, even after 4 coats! Unfortunately I can’t recommend this varnish.

Easy use & finish looks great but poor durability

I varnished my floors 4 months ago, and while application was easy (dried quickly etc.) and the finish looked really good, my floors are already showing signs of wear and tear. I used a plastic floor protector mat with my office wheelie chair, and this mat later stuck to the floor and then pulled up parts of the wood floor when I later moved the mat. I tried the office chair without the mat and this started to leave marks very quickly. My kitchen chairs have also started to scratch the floor (despite using felt pads). It seems to take very little to damage the varnish - "diamond hard" is pretty misleading. I probably wouldn't use this varnish again, and if I did, only for very low impact areas.

Don’t buy

Used on tongue and grove 18 mil floor boards bought from BnQ after sanding, hovered and wiped with white spirits. Which by the way I wouldn’t recommend as it Marks the wood! Did 4 coats and a light sand before the last. Like it says on the tin. The result is like I’ve done half a coat. It still looks Matt no satin. Marks with mud that can’t be wiped off. Paid 47 pounds total wast of money. and time. DO NOT. RECOMMEND. I really think Ronsil need to review this product they are welcome round to mind to check it out. It really is terrible stuff! On the plus side it does dry clear without any yellowing

Excellent product, don't use anything else.

I used this product 10yrs ago on our newly sanded (original) victorian floorboards and again today after lightly resanding them after extensive use. So, you get a good 10yrs out of this products, worth every penny!

Superb Finish

I was initially sceptical as I had used wax on previous wooden floors but two coats of quick drying diamond varnish later and I am a convert. Excellent product, easy clean (in water) brushes.
