My wife bought this for me as a birthday gift while we were on holiday near Stratford-upon-Avon a few years ago. When we got home to Sussex I was keen to use it. After charging the batteries I picked up the drill which immediately leapt into life for, ooh, at least two or three seconds before dying. I tried again, but this time in vain.

So off to my local B&Q. “You’ve got to take it back to where you bought it,” said the man. Now I’ve read several times since that B&Q will exchange faulty products at any store. It’s a shame that its staff apparently don’t (or certainly didn’t) know that policy. Anyway, a six hour round trip (if the M25 was feeling kind) didn’t really appeal to me. So I went home with the unresponsive drill where my telephone call to B&Q at distant Stratford-upon-Avon wasn’t too successful either (“Bring it back, sir, we’ll change it for you.”)

Over the next few months I tried the drill now and again. On occasions it would tease me with a quick burst of power before lapsing back into its catatonic state. I didn’t have high hopes, but I persevered when I remembered – though on two or three occasions in the early days when I passed through Stratford-upon-Avon I must confess that I forgot to take my little Ryobi with me. Hey ho!

Here we are now, approaching five years since that fateful day when my wife bought me a Ryobi cordless drill for my birthday – and I have yet to use it productively. And thus while Ryobi continues, I assume, to turn out products of equal quality, and B&Q, bless it, continues to look after its customers in its own unique but questionable fashion, my Ryobi cordless drill – unmarked and unused – awaits its final journey to the local municipal recycling centre.

Ryobi are robust, reliable and share the same batteries across different tools. What more can you ask or want?

My experiences with this are good. I use Ryobi - Ryobi One + Cordless 18V 1.3Ah Li-Ion Combi Drill 1 Battery at work. It is always needed, when something needs to be tightened.
