Product information

The kataba is a backless style of Japanese pull saw designed for deep cuts all the way through a material. It can be used with deep timber sections or sheet materials.

The Shogun M-190W Hassunme Kataba is specifically designed for crosscutting (across the grain of the timber). It cuts very fast thanks to its narrow blade and medium fine 14tpi tooth pattern.

The non-slip handle is made from a rubberised elastomer to give a comfortable feel.

The 190mm length cutting blade gives this saw a lighter feel than the full length version.

    Shogun M-190W Specification:

    Blade Length: 190mm

    Blade Height: 55mm

    Blade Thickness (Plate): 0.5mm

    Blade Thickness (Kerf): 0.7mm

    Toothing: 1.75mm (14tpi)

    Overall Length: 400mm

Replaceable Blade: Yes. Product Code: M-190WSB

All Shogun Japanese saws have superior cutting teeth:

    1) 2-step deep teeth for scraping out wood chips to prevent clogging.

    2) Precision ground teeth by diamond Borazon wheel to sharpen the teeth on 3 sides.

    3) Electrical-pulse hardened teeth to maintain sharpness up to 3 times longer than conventional saws.

The most noticeable design feature of a Japanese saw is that the teeth are angled backwards towards the handle. When in use, the cutting action is on the pull-stroke hence Japanese saws are often referred to as pull saws. The saw is designed to cut as you draw it through the timber, totally the opposite to a traditional western saw. The benefit of the pull saw design, is that as much pressure as desired can be applied to the cut without fear of the blade buckling. This gentle method of sawing also ensures far more accuracy and a much thinner blade can be used which equals less resistance and a faster cut.
