At B&Q, we believe that forests should be protected. That way, we can make sure there's always a source of timber from which we can build and furnish our homes. When you buy wood products from us, you can rest assured we've only bought our timber from sources certified as sustainable.
Our forest-friendly promise
At B&Q, we're committed to:
- Always using sustainable sources
- Always replenishing what's taken
- Helping protect forest habitats
- Helping protect forest livelihoods
B&Q Good Woods scheme
We've set up our pioneering Good Woods scheme to help reinvigorate the British woodland economy and timber market. Already, over 20% of our timber (and products containing timber) is UK-sourced. We're really keen to increase this percentage, but UK timber is in short supply at the moment. The reason? Because over 45% of British woodland is unmanaged.
Woodlands thrive under the right management because biodiversity increases and timber production becomes sustainable. Through this scheme, we'll enable over 10,000 hectares of British woodland to be mapped and managed. And when you buy your timber-based projects from B&Q, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you're supporting these efforts.
B&Q's global timber policy
Our aim is to protect global forests for future generations. That's why we only source from forests certified as sustainably managed by independent schemes. And because we're able to track our products from forest floor to shop floor, we can ensure that every timber-based product we buy comes from a sustainable source.
As this equates to over 17,000 products, it's some achievement. In fact, it's taken 20 years of commitment to reach this point. And it means you can rest assured that when you buy from B&Q, you too are doing something positive for the environment.
