How to understand building & planning regulations

How to understand building & planning regulations

What are planning and building controls? Why do they exist? Can you deal with them yourself or is it best to ask a specialist? As with any task, you can decide for yourself when you know exactly what's involved.

First of all, it's important to understand what planning and building regulations are. It's easy to think of them as restrictive, bureaucratic tools put in place purely to thwart your ambitions. However, they're essential safety mechanisms which have been designed to protect you, your neighbours and the local environment.

The regulatory bodies will give you permission to carry out your plans unless there are very good reasons not to - in which case they must explain their decision. And if you disagree, you have the right to appeal against it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what it says on the tin. Certainly not the cheapest but worth spending decent money on a decent saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good tenon saw This is the second saw of this type that i have bought and used. It is very easy to hold and cuts a very good straight and square line. I have just fitted 6 metre of earth stone worktop which is finished in 6mm thick acrillic which the book recommends to be cut with a tungsten carbide tipped blade. One saw cut 6metres of this 34mm thick worktop including the acrillic with no chipping or damage including cut outs for the sink and hob. Will stick to this make from now on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good solid saw. Bought this to replace my aging tenon saw and it dies the job. First one ordered did not have the blade guard.
