do not buy these door handles. how these have been put into mass production is beyond me, there is a major design fault in that the two holes that are supposed to be used to attach the door handles together are on the wrong axis so instead of being above and below the door pin mechanism it runs across the pin making it impossible to screw through.

Fatal design flaw

I bought this yesterday. It has a pair of screws that are designed to run through the door to the handle on the other side, pulling the handles together and making them fast against the door. The problem is that the holes for these screw run parallel to the handle, so if you drill holes through your door to the other side you will have to drill through the latch mechanism too, which will obviously destroy it. The other wood screws are rather flimsy and seem unlikely to provide the rigidity required from a door handle. It is possible to screw both handles to the bar that runs through the latch, which will give a degree of rigidity, but which will be far less robust. When I called B&Q to ask them how to fit they were unable to assist. It is also apparently impossible to speak to the designers or manufacturers as they are in China. Avoid this handle like the plague if like me you have thin (1 inch) doors with softish wood. It appears that B&Q source all this type of handle from the same manufacturer, and that they all have the same flaw. The chap I spoke to at B&Q suggested that nothing surprises him anymore either, which is about as condemnatory a dismissal of a product as I can come up with.
