This ladder is described as 4.21m HIGH. This does not mean it's 4.21m LONG it apparently means it enables you to reach to 4.21m when at the top. It is actually 3.8m long. To extend it you need to push the sections up from the lowest i.e. initially you push all remaining sections up 'til they lock, they're quite heavy at this point, then the remaining ones bar one, and so on; so to fully extend the ladder you need to be able to reach virtually to the top - impossible with the ladder vertical, this means it's easiest to do with the whole ladder at ground level but to do this you need plenty of room. On my landing, for which I bought the ladder to reach up to a very high ceiling, there was not enough room so I had to extend the ladder from the top of a fairly tall step ladder! The stabilising bar at the bottom makes the ladder very stable in the sideways direction but is so wide that it limits where you can locate it and sometimes you need to remove it to reach where you need to. And it's not cheap and it IS heavy.
