Ronseal Diamond Antique pine Satin Wood Floor Varnish, 2.5L
Product details
Product information
This antique pine floor varnish from the Ronseal Diamond range can be applied to interior using a brush. The varnish dries in just 30 minutes and will cover up to 18 m² per litre on average.
- Gives floors Diamond Hard protection from shoes, scratches and spills, while highlighting the natural beauty of the wood.
- Surface Preparation - Make sure the room is warmer than 10 degrees, remove your furniture and open the doors and windows. Wear a mask when sanding the floors to avoid inhaling dust. How to prepare unvarnished floors: Prepping before varnishing will help the varnish stick evenly and give you better results. Sand along the length of your floorboards with 120 grit sandpaper. (Helpful hint: It’s quicker and easier to use a floor sander). Let the dust settle and run the vacuum around before wiping the floor down with white spirit. If you spot any holes or imperfections, use our Multi-purpose Wood Filler to fill them in. How to prepare varnished floors: Lightly sand your floor with 120 grit sandpaper. If your old varnish is flaking off, use a floor sander to sand back to the bare wood. Let the dust settle, vacuum it up and then wipe down your floor with white spirit.
- Instructions for Use - Give the varnish a really good stir and test the colour on a small patch to make sure you’re happy with it. Use a 4” brush and start in the corner furthest from the door. Work along the length of two floorboards at a time, just make sure you don’t get trapped in the corner! Wait two hours for the first coat to dry before applying another. For the best protection, you’ll need three coats. Before you start the third coat, very lightly sand along the length of your floorboards with 240 grit sandpaper. You won’t need a floor sander for this bit. Wipe the floor down with a damp cloth and then apply the third coat. Your floor will be ready to walk on in only two hours. Wait 24 hours before bringing your furniture back in. After 72 hours your floor will be diamond hard.

Does what it says on the tin.
Dried to a lovely colour and finish. Definitely NOT tangerine like some previous reviews claim - no idea what they are on about. Final colour after the recommended 3 coats is exactly what I expected.

TRULY EXCELENT VARNISH.
I'm a hotelier, and I've used vast quantities of this varnish on the wooden floors of my bedrooms, my hallway and a dining room. It's easy to apply - use a normal roller, a small roller and a brush. Low odour. Dries very quickly. Superbly hard-wearing, even in heavy traffic areas. Apply three coats. Come back after a few years, follow the instructions (wash thoroughly and rub down) and apply three more coats. Wash out brushes and rollers with soapy water. The shade "antique pine" isn't too dark and allows the woody grain to show through. MUCH cheaper than fitted carpets - I use large rugs instead. I've read that a bare varnished floor increases a property's value when it's resold. I also use this superb product when varnishing antique tables and other furniture.

Terrible product - avoid at all cost.
Rubbish varnish - to be avoided. I've been a Ronseal enthusiast for many decades. But that was when Ronseal's products were oil-based and fit-for-purpose. The 'new and improved' water-based varnish just does not work. I used the Antique Pine Interior Varnish Diamond Hard and made a complete mess of my pine floor. It is nearly impossible to hide brush strokes so the floor is covered in blobs and lines. I suspect the varnish is designed to off really, really fast so it can be re-coated in 2 hours.Looks like I'll need to strip my floor all over again. I'll never touch Ronseal products again.

I've ruined my floor!
Dries to a horrible orange. Looks cheap and tacky like a cheap laminate floor. I'm absolutely gutted! The amount of work I've put into preparing the old pine boards and I've ruined it with this varnish so I'm going to have to start again.

Ouch!
Please listen to these reviews or at least test on a hidden corner. I’m going to have to sand and start all over. Absolutely heart breaking, I spent some much time sanding my floor.

Slowly dries to orange
Make sure you wait overnight after you test this or as above it dries to orange after you've painted the entire floor!

Tangerine
Bright orange. Wish I'd listened to the other reviews, ended up sanding it back to bare wood a week later. Avoid.

Very orange
I bought this for new pine flooring in the living room. I was hoping to take the rawness out and give it a slightly antique look. Instead I ended up with a bright orange mess. Very expensive yet no tester pots available?!
