I used the rust-oleum spray paint on my fire and thought highly of the product so decided to use the chalk paint of the same brand. How wrong I was. The paint is claggy and begins drying way too quickly, leaving you constantly trying to drag the paint brush through that what you have already put on. When it dried I thought it may be better with a second coat but it is simply terrible and gets worse. It shows up every possible mark and leaves indentations of the beginning of where brush strokes begin. To say I am unhappy with this product is an understatement. In actual fact I am FUMING as I am now going to have to sand it all off and try an alternative which will increase cost. AVOID!!!

This product is good... but

You have to understand how chalk paint works. It isn't like any other paint and if it isn't going on well and it's dragging, it is because it is too thick and needs diluting down a little.
Give the can a big shake as the 'chalk' settles at the bottom. It need really stirring up and then I always add a little water. The paint should be about the same consistency as double cream. Try and avoid getting paint around the rim of the can as this will harden and cause bits to float in the can. As you are painting and air gets to the paint - it will thicken, as appropriate, add a little more water and stir.
I find using sponge rollers the best way to cover large surface areas, using a good quality bristle brush for fiddlier parts. It looks quite shocking at first, because white especially, needs quite a few coats. I would recommend a practice run on something small if it is your first time using chalk paint as it really is an art... or using a darker colour like grey, as this will cover better with fewer coats.
I have used Rustoleum lots of times and it works just a well as any other and is great value for money.

I wouldn't buy again

I have to reiterate that said by others as it's not a smooth finish. The paint drags and is bitty.

Does NOT do what it says on the tin

What seemed to be a simple job of painting 2 bedside tables turned into a frustrating few hours and the tables look dreadful.
I followed the instructions on the tin but after 3 coats the surface is anything but smooth. It does not coat evenly and dries far too quickly. I would never buy this overpriced rubbish again.

Great for painting detailed designs!

I've never used chalk paint before but think this is fab! I have used it to paint designs onto a wooden chest of drawers. It's great because it doesn't drip at all, and I love the matt finish. It does dry very quickly though!
