Doesn't really work

I bought this along with Verve Root breaker (L)1400mm to do 4 fence posts. This hardly did anything, I found using the root breaker much more effective then taking the soil out by hand. In hindsight I would have been better with a Chisel Digging Bar (from well known online shopping portal) which has a chiselled end and a point end making it easier when you come up against stones etc.
Does the job

I was surprised at how sturdy and effective this was for the price! Made holes for fence posts a doddle. I live in an area with a relatively firm gravely clay subsoil, but it got through it easily enough. I augered holes 500mm deep, but it can probably go to 800mm - 1m deep.
A couple of tips:
1) wear protective gloves with a decent grip, otherwise you'll get blisters
2) The description doesn't give the width of hole it makes - they are approximately 150mm (6 inch in old money) in diameter. Plenty big for most standard fence posts, but wouldn't be much use for sleepers.

Works really well. Gets through stony clay ground too. Takes a fraction of the time to dig footings for deck posts compared to a spade. Cheapest around. Wear gloves as the grips caused blisters to hands.

I bought this 2 weeks ago as I need to dig out 5 holes for posts. I'd done the first with spade which was hard work before searching for a cheap auger. I have heavy clay soil and this went through with no trouble. And the price is not worth worrying about - about 1/3rd price of others on the market. Well worth the money. I would recommend.
