A meat tenderiser is used to tenderise slabs of meat in preparation for cooking. Tenderising meat with the meat mallet softens the fibres, making the meat easier to chew and to digest. They're ideal for preparing particularly tough cuts of steak and work well when broiling or frying the meat. A meat pounder can also be used for dishes suck as chicken-fried steak and schnitzel, to make them wider and thinner.
