1. Boho décor

The boho trend has come back round again, and we're totally here for it. Laid-back, eclectic, and free-spirited. Boho room décor is all about bending the rules of interior design and not conforming to one particular style. Create your own boho bedroom by mixing and matching different patterns and textures. Layer blankets and rugs – and don’t hold back on the cushions! Use natural materials such as rattan and bamboo with light, honey tones. Use houseplants to bring some greenery to the space, a Swiss cheese plant or trailing ivy works well in a boho style bedroom.

When it comes to creating a relaxing environment for a good night’s rest, why not listen to the principles of feng shui? We’ve seen a huge uplift in online searches for “feng shui” in the past year.

What is feng shui?

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice with a set of rules or principles around arranging your furniture or objects. The way in which you arrange your items can affect the energy in the room, so by listening to the principles of feng shui you can live in harmony with your surroundings. Being mindful about where you place your bed and other furniture in your bedroom can help improve sleep quality, relaxation, and stress levels. Feng Shui bedroom tips

  • Make sure your bed is accessible from both sides. Having space on both sides allows a balance of the yin and yang.
  • Decorate with neutral colours. Feng shui experts advise against using primary colours in the bedroom, you should opt for soft, delicate colours such as beige, cream or taupe.
  • Keep the office out of your bedroom. Having an office space in your bedroom will change the energy from peaceful to stressful. If possible, avoid having an office in your room.
  • Avoid hanging art directly above the bed. Instead, you should hang art somewhere that you are going to see as soon as you wake up.
  • Position your bed properly. The best placement for your bed is diagonal to the door. You want to have full view of the door without being directly in front of it, as this is said to be a vulnerable position. According to feng shui tradition, the best direction to sleep in is towards the south.
  • Ensure you have a headboard on your bed. Headboards are super important when it comes to feng shui bedroom design. They are a symbol of strength and stability. Ensure your headboard is placed directly against the wall.
